 The

People's

Mayor!

Hello! I'm Colton Baumgartner, a filmmaker, author, and multimedia entrepreneur with a strong humanitarian focus, dedicated to creating positive change.
With a lifelong passion for politics, I recognize the significance of civic responsibility. Having called Granite City home for many years, I've established connections with community leaders and business stakeholders, allowing me to understand the disconnect between the local government and its citizens.
While I appreciate Granite City's community spirit, industrial heritage, and charming neighborhoods, its decline is evident in its vacant downtown area and financial mismanagement, which has pushed it to the brink of bankruptcy.
I am eager to spearhead the revitalization effort and restore Granite City.

I have called many places across America my home before moving to Granite City. I was born in Utah and grew up in the formative years of my life in Idaho. But I needed to expand my horizons and moved to Oregon. Living in Oregon I experienced a strong connection of community, acceptance and connection to the local government. After several years I yearned for more understanding and chose to journey across America and moved to New Orleans. While living there I saw a stark contrast to Oregon. While New Orleans has a deep history and tight knitted community, their local government was not representing them or their needs.

My experiential knowledge, gained by first hand experiences across America, will allow me to be open to new ideas and implement brand new policies with a focus on all and not the few. I have lived in unincorporated and incorporated  towns and witnessed both failing local governments and strong local governments. The difference between the two was their connection to the people. I believe that by restoring the population's faith in the local government through new policies, Granite City can become even stronger as a whole. That is my vision for the city.

Upon moving here I fell in love. I saw beautiful architecture, a rich history, and a strong community. Unfortunately the community in Granite City is divided and disconnected from the local government. But the fact that no matter the political allegiance, all are agreed in the urgent need for a new image. I believe it is a strength that I am not a career politician and have no connection to the special interests in the city or the current negative image. Politics as usual with the same leadership and policies that have increased the problems in the city will only continue Granite City down the same road. It is time for a change, a fresh direction for this amazing city to allow the population to grow, thrive and come together.
